Happenings: October Is Energy Awareness Month: How Did You Celebrate?

September 1, 2021 by Brian Zahnstecher

Did you know October was National Energy Awareness Month? Seriously, a bona fide initiative from the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) dedicated to raising awareness of energy efficiency needs and initiatives (US DoE, 2020)! There is even an Energy Efficiency Day on the first Wednesday in October (since 2016) (Energy Efficiency Day, 2020), which is Oct. 6 this year. Let me tell you I have spent an entire career (and lifetime really) focusing on energy efficiency and how to minimize energy consumption in everything from utility grids to electronic systems to how many steps I need to take to accomplish three tasks in different parts of the house…guess how I learned about all this stuff? Figure 1 shows the exact moment I found out, ironically from a client paying me for work in this very area!
