The PELS is the driving force behind numerous standards activities relating to power electronics and smart grid initiatives, including the following:

International Technology Roadmap for Wide Bandgap Power Semiconductors (ITRW)
Smart Grid Activities
Among the efforts of the PELS Standards Committee is participation in the IEEE-SA P2030.1 work on smart grid infrastructure. The IEEE-SA P2030.1 guide will provide a knowledge base for understanding and defining the electric grid infrastructure requirements to support various forms of electric-sourced transportation, including both vehicle and mass transit. This is necessary to determine the future grid infrastructure requirements that must be implemented in phases in the future. The P2030.1 project is sponsored by the IEEE_SA Standards Coordinating Committee 40 (SCC40).
Passive Components
Matt Wilkowski has been leading the Electronic Transformers Technical Committee effort with several standards relating to magnetic materials and components. PELS began a new working group on Testing and Characterization of Electrochemical Capacitors. A project authorization request (PAR) is being created and this working group will begin its work soon. New Call for Participation for IEEE P3105 (Recommended Practice for Design and Integration of Solid-State Transformers in Electric Grid): Sponsored by the IEEE PELS and Solid-State Transformers, this recommended practice defines the fundamental principles, basic and advanced features, and design requirements of a solid-state transformer being connected to an electric grid.
